It’s that time of year when shops are decorating their windows with snow scenes and fairy lights, town centres are decorating trees, and Santas around the country are preparing their grottos. And why are they creating these amazing festive experiences? Well, partly to create a charming and magical experience, but mostly to attract shoppers to buy. A gaze in a perfectly lit and decorated window will set the cash registers ringing.
But we also must remember that more people are shopping and interacting online than ever before, meaning that it makes sense for businesses to embrace the power of their social media accounts to grab attention, raise engagement, and gain more followers. The more people who see your message, the greater the likelihood that you will increase sales not just over the Christmas period but over the other 12 months of the year.
So, how do you create engaging festive content that will make people keep coming back?
Have some fun and show your personality.
Festive posts (no matter the season) are a perfect way to show the light-hearted side of your business. Whether you opt for a “Wahey it’s Christmas” approach or prefer something a little more “bah humbug”, you can show your potential customers your company’s personality. As an example, a family-run restaurant that the NAMA team uses published its Christmas opening hours and then described what the family would be doing on the four days they were closed. Tongue-in-cheek descriptions of flipping over Monopoly boards helped potential customers connect more to the business and the family behind it.
Run a competition
A competition to give away a gift or service over the festive period is always a great way to gain more interaction and there are so many ways to do it. Our particular favourite is to ask users to nominate someone who deserves a gift. Not only does it show that your business has a big heart, it also opens you up to a wider audience.
Share your charitable and community-based acts.
Social media isn’t all about selling, it should also be used to share good news stories, so if your business is donating money to a local charity or doing something lovely over the festive period, shout about it. And you don’t have to constrain yourself to festivities, if you do good acts, let your customer base know about it.
Be thankful
The end of the year is also a perfect time to thank all your customers, both old and new. Nothing beats a lovely thank you post.
